Changes to BeiDou Signals in TerraStar-NRT Service for Waypoint

12 January 2022

Issue Summary:

Updates are required in our correction generation infrastructure to support modernized GNSS signals and correction service products. As a result, BeiDou signal support in TerraStar-NRT is changing and a brief service outage is required.

Beginning on January 17, 2022, corrections for BeiDou Phase-2 satellites will no longer be available in TerraStar-NRT files.

On January 19, 2022, between 10:00-15:00 UTC, there will be a service outage for up to four hours while the updates are applied. The TerraStar NRT service will be completely unavailable at this time and historic data will not be available for the period of the outage.

Products Affected:

The TerraStar-NRT correction service with any version of Inertial Explorer, Inertial Explorer Xpress, GrafNav / GrafNet, GrafNav Static, and SDK.

Impact:

Currently, TerraStar-NRT provides precise clock and orbit information for BeiDou Phase-2 satellites and corrections for Phase-2 signals. BeiDou Phase-3 satellites are not supported.

After the update, TerraStar-NRT will provide precise clock and orbit information for BeiDou Phase-3 satellites and corrections for Phase-3 signals. BeiDou Phase-2 satellites will no longer be supported.

In current Waypoint software, BeiDou Phase-3 signals are not supported in PPP positioning engines. Full support will be added in the next major software release scheduled for Q1 2023.

Mitigation:

Users should avoid performing any activities that will require TerraStar-NRT data during the service outage on January 19, 2022.

Users should update to the latest version of Waypoint software as soon as the next major release is available to enable full BeiDou Phase 3 correction support in PPP engines.
